Plate Compactors
Plate compactors, also known as whacker plates, have a heavy plate on the bottom which moves rapidly up and down. The combination of these rapid impacts, the plate weight, and impact forces, results in the soil underneath being compacted or packed. Use to compact asphalt and sub-base on driveways and car parks, especially in tight spaces where a large roller might not be able to reach. They work best on granular soils, which contain more sand or gravel, and it may help to add some moisture to the soil before using the plate compactor. It generally takes two to four passes to achieve proper compaction, depending on the situation
