Product Information
Boom Lift Hire offers a type of aerial work platform which provides temporary access to high places of work. It may also be called a mobile elevated work platform (MEWP), elevated work platform (EWP) or aerial work platform (AWP).
It consists of a platform or bucket at the end of a hydraulic lifting system which provides a safe way of lifting workers and tools to elevated areas.
Although the terms Boom Lift and Cherry Picker are often used interchangeably, a Boom Lift is a type of MEWP that offers more versatility and further reach compared to a Cherry Picker.
Boom Lifts are fitted with tyres and are generally self-propelled, so they can be driven around a job site between locations. They often have larger platforms, which can accommodate multiple workers and heavier equipment. Operators can control and manoeuvre safely from the controls installed in the basket, allowing for convenient and precise positioning of the unit for best access for work to be carried out safely.
They are commonly used across numerous industries including construction and maintenance; roofing building and painting and film and TV.
Boom Lifts can be classified into two main types: Articulated Boom Lifts (which have multiple sections that can bend or "articulate," allowing the platform to reach over obstacles and access areas that are hard to reach with a straight arm) and Telescopic Boom Lifts (which feature a straight arm that extends horizontally and vertically).
Boom Lifts, especially articulated ones, provide a wide range of movement, allowing for complex positioning.
They can be powered by electricity (rechargeable battery) or diesel. For boom lift hire ou must be over 18 years old, and have had suitable training to operate a MEWP, including all types of lift.
Factors to consider when hiring an Elevated Work Platform:
Height required?
They can reach from 30ft (9m) to 160ft (50m) with many options in between.
Working indoors or outdoors?
An electric model is normally recommended for indoor work where low noise and low emissions are important, whereas a rough-terrain model may be needed if you are outdoors.
Is horizontal and vertical reach required?
If so, estimate both the sideways outreach required as well as the height.
