Acrow Prop Hire Safety
All acrow props are manufactured in compliance with safety standard BS4074 to provide safe use, however this relies on them being used and installed properly.
When hiring acrow props, make sure you consider the following: • Load-bearing calculations should be checked in consultation with a professional
• Use the correct length prop – its unsafe to make up any gap with timber
• Check that all points of contact are fit for purpose before propping – i.e. ground, wall masonry and roof/ceiling timbers. If they are not in good condition and stable, repair them first before you instal the acro props.
Did you know?
Until the 1930’s acrow props were made of wood, until William de Vigier, a Swiss-born inventor, came up with a more efficient prop made of steel, which adjusted telescopically using a screw thread design. De Vigier named his product ‘acrow’ props, after his business solicitor Mr. A Crow, to make his product both easy to pronounce and easy to identify at the start of alphabetical listings.
